History: Douglas Fairbanks & Mary Pickford founded the Academy of Motion Pictures and art sciences in 1927. Douglas Fairbanks was the first President. The first honorary membership was awarded to Thomas Edison. On May 16th, 1929, the first Academy Awards ceremony was held. The first oscar statuette went to Emil Jannings in 1929 for "The Last Command" and "The Way of All Flesh."Most Oscars recieved: Titanic, Ben-Hur and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
